Albert Palmer, , Light Blue convert from Focus on Imaging 2011, explains how he uses Light Blue to keep him organised.
Before Light Blue I used a variety of programs - Google Calendar, Numbers, Things, Pages - and the rest was paper based. The important stuff was on one spreadsheet in Numbers which I had to update and search. I then had to manually enter dates into Google Calendar and create individual invoices and receipts every time. At the beginning this worked reasonably well, but as my business grew it was clear that I needed a professional solution. I was wasting so much time on admin that it made sense to buy one. It wasn't just time though - keeping track of all my documents and keeping them updated meant that the chance of error was much smaller.
Why did you choose Light Blue to run your business?I chose Light Blue because I knew a few other people who used and recommended it. Whilst I was tempted to carry on using my own spreadsheet system I'm glad I didn't because Light Blue has saved me so much time.
There are a lot of really great features that help me from day to day. Easily tracking payments, creating invoices, the iCal updater, the stats and the financial reports are features that range from 'that's really useful and interesting' to 'that's saved me days of work'. I found that I needed to invest a good few hours learning how the program worked (like any piece of software) but it was time well spent. I'd also say that the support I have received has been the best I have ever experienced. When I didn't understand something, or needed to find something out the responses I received ranged from 2-3 hours to a few minutes. The support videos were also extremely useful and easy to understand.
What's your favorite feature in Light Blue?Linking Light Blue with iCal is so useful. I then link iCal with my iPhone and iPad. I'm out shooting 2-5 times a week during the busy season and knowing that all of my shoot information and contact details are with me is so useful. A close second is the financial reports.
I'm really looking forward to seeing what they come up with in the future. Rumour has it that it'll be able to make you tea. [Sorry, only coffee. Ed.]
